One night last week, after the bedtime routine was complete and the kids were supposed to be drifting off to dreamland, we heard Sophie call to her roommate Phoebe.
Sophie: Phoebe! Knock knock! (no answer) Knock knock!
Phoebe: (much quieter) Who's there?
Sophie: Apple!
Phoebe: Apple who?
Sophie: Orange!
Phoebe: Orange who?
Sophie: Budaba (banana)!
Phoebe: Banana who?
Sophie: (building up to what clearly was meant to be the punchline) BUDABA!
Both girls laughed, because, obviously, the joke was hilarious.
