Tie It Up With a Bow

After working on and off on this particular skill for more than a year, I'm happy to report that Sophie can now tie her shoes!

She wanted to show both the shoe that I tied (her left foot) and the one that she tied (her right foot).

Like Rapunzel, But At the End of the Movie

If you've ever wondered how thick Sophie's hair is, I can tell you: it's thick enough that I had trouble cutting that ponytail off at the beginning of the haircut. She has SO MUCH HAIR. We've known for weeks that she needed it cut. She and I have spent too many hours brushing the early stages of dreadlocks out of her hair. I was relieved when she finally agreed to the cut.

She loves the result. It's much easier to take care of and looks really cute with headbands and clips. I'm just glad she was happy with how it turned out.

Room for Everyone

On Sunday I did Primary with Topher and Sophie upstairs in Topher's room while Bryan and the big kids watched the Sunday School lesson over Zoom. Near the end of our lesson we took some time to listen to a song about Noah and draw pictures of the ark and animals.

Topher asked me to take a picture of his ark when he finished. It includes an octopus, he told everyone that would listen.

Noah Was a Prophet

Sophie was given the opportunity to provide the talk for Primary yesterday. She spent a solid chunk of Saturday preparing what she would say. I had a few suggestions, but I had to share them sparingly because she was determined that this talk would be all hers. Bonus, she finally let me cut her hair on Friday (after weeks of battling tangles and saying it needed to be shorter) because she knew she would be on camera on Saturday.

I think both the talk and the haircut are great.

This Episode

There's a sweet Australian show on Disney+ called Bluey about a blue heeler dog and her family. It's clever and funny and has good lessons for parents and kids alike. It's a show that we can all watch and enjoy together. Each episode of Bluey has a title screen and voiceover near the beginning that tells what the name of that particular installment is. For instance, the voiceover on my favorite episode (yes, I have a favorite, it makes me cry every time) says something like, "This episode of Bluey is called Sleepytime."

That's the backstory you need for this next part.

Yesterday morning I overheard Phoebe playing with Topher. They were discussing what they should do. I assume they came to a decision because a few minutes later I heard Topher say, "This episode of Topher is called Town."

And then I quoted him all day long.

Pocket Power

"Are those the people that don't give us pockets?" -Phoebe, speaking for women everywhere while wondering about the people angry that Minnie Mouse is wearing pants to celebrate Disneyland Paris' 30th anniversary.

The Power of Sleep

Bryan has always had the superpower of getting our kids to sleep. He sent me this picture last week after Topher, who definitely did not want to sleep, drifted off. This superpower is magical.

First Things First

On Saturday I sent the girls upstairs to clean their room. They came down later with their hair done and costumes on. Their room was mostly cleaned as well, but the costumes were the priority.
