Charting His Progress

Topher finally had his eighteen-month checkup yesterday, now that he's nineteen-months old. The nurse that measured him the last few times we were there didn't measure from the top of his head, she measured from where the back of his head hit the exam table while lying down. Each time I saw that this gave an inaccurate measurement, but I didn't say anything.

Today I was determined to speak up. Thankfully, it was a different nurse, but I still watched to see what she would do. She measured from the top of his head. I told her how the other nurse had done it and she seemed surprised her coworker didn't know better.

Last time, when he was incorrectly measured, Topher came in around the thirtieth percentile for height. Yesterday he was measured at the seventy-fifth percentile.

Yeah, that seems right.

Same thing happened with Liam! When he was seen on base the nurse measured him incorrectly. I said something to her but she told it was done right. Well once she inputted his numbers on the growth chart, it showed that Liam had shrunk since his previous appt. At that point, she then came back and retook measurements. I am still amused when I look at his growth chart as it still reflects the decline in height. (Not sure why she didn't remove those measurements when she realized they were incorrect).
