I have an overdue library book. I'm not a fan of that. This book was actually due nine weeks ago, but I renewed it twice and a nice woman who works at our library renewed it once for me, thus giving me an extra three weeks to find it.
The three weeks were up yesterday, and I've seen no sign of the book. I can't figure out where it is. I've looked under (and behind) beds, chairs, and couches. I've checked our bookcases just in case it got stuck in amongst our books. I've even looked through drawers. Nothing.
I realize this is largely my fault for not mandating that all library books stay in a central location. I encourage the boys to tote their books about the house, mostly because I want them to read, no matter where they are. This is the first time we've lost a library item so completely.
I'm wondering how long I should let the fine accumulate before I swallow my pride and pay for the book.

I know how you feel. Bekah poured water all over a library book and I felt horrible about, but I paid for the book to get it off my mind.
And on the last part, we are missing our tv remote and have been looking for it for 3 days now. I have no idea where it can be hiding.
Have you taken the book out of the house? Have you seatched the car? Where were you when you had it last?
And of course always search with prayer.
Sorry, the computer is doing tricks again and I don't know how to correct the spelling in my first comment, but you can figure it out.
I have a book like that, too! Actually, this is the second time it's happened. The first, I went right away and told them I lost it, and they actually recommended that I keep renewing it before reporting it as "lost." So that's what we've been doing ... since July! Frustrating thing is that I thought it was a lame book, and I'm sure time will run out soon and I'll have to buy it, when I don't know where it is nor would I ever, ever buy it. :-P
dang sorry. your better then me i never let Jackie bring the books home for that reason i am so worried about losing them...one day i am going to have to get over that fear and let her bring some home!
What was the title of the book? With all that has been going on at your house -the wedding, Christmas and a very fun birthday, maybe it was lost in the wrapping paper box or among the Christmas decorations. We "lost" the baby Jesus that went with our nativity year after year after year. We always found him right before the next Christmas somewhere like in the couch or behind the piano etc...We solved the problem by using a "zippy tie" to tie him into the manger. He's still zippie tied to it. I don't worry about misplacing him anymore because the kids are all grown, but I wouldn't think about cutting that tie-too many good memories.
I hope you find the book, but if not, maybe it will show up next Christmas. You are responsible and caring with books. Sometimes these things happen to wonderful caring book people.
Imagination fun: Maybe the book doesn't want to go back to the library.I'll bet the book isn't lost...it's just hiding because it loves being in your home so much. I like that explanation much better. Do you think the librarians would buy that excuse?
That happened to me. I paid for the book and then found it 2 months later somewhere strange. I would just pay for it.
