Bakerman

Several weeks ago Peter found a recipe for apple pie in one of his kid cookbooks. He's been asking ever since if he could make it. We bought the apples, but for various reasons the actual cooking hadn't happened. Wednesday is early out day in our district, so we took advantage of the extra time and Peter made his pie today.

He peeled the apples, then I chopped them. He measured and added all the ingredients and I manned the stove while they cooked. He rolled out the pie crust (we bought one for his first try, we'll add making the crust to a future attempt) and I filled it with the sweet, hot apples. It was a joint effort.

The first thing Bryan said when he walked in the door tonight was, "We should eat that pie right now." I hadn't told him we'd made one, he'd smelled it when he got home. It was delicious.

Peter announced that he'll be making a peach pie next. I think we're all looking forward to it.

So did you eat it right away?? I sure hope so. And did you get to have any? You know, pie with a side of steak?

We waited for Bryan and Peter to run to the store and get some vanilla ice cream (both sugary and sugar-free varieties) and everyone had a to eat a little dinner. But then we ate it. There was very little sugar, so I did try some.

And since it was fruit, we finished it off for breakfast this morning. I figured it was probably healthier than some of the cereal they've consumed in the past.
