One More Time

Cooper and I saw Sophie's final performance as the lead. It was an even better show than Thursday had been. The mics cut out a few times, but Sophie was clearly audible all the way to the back row. Her acting was authentic and her singing was beautiful!

Well done, Sophie!

Saving the Day

Sophie did a great job as a "sassy" hero. You can find the hero theme song HERE.

Drained

This last weekend was full. Soooooo full. Sophie had another show Friday night (she was a sassy hero ensemble member). We had a long choir practice on Saturday morning, then a baptism, then a baby shower. And then Cooper and I saw Sophie's final performance as the lead (she was even better than her first night!). Saturday night included final preparations for Sunday.

Sunday brought us early morning Resurrection rolls, hair and makeup for Sophie for her closing show, church, finding subs for missing teachers, unexpectedly jumping in to takeover singing time, then home for a super quick dinner, and off for last rehearsals before the multi-ward Easter concert that evening that I'd been co-planning since January.

By the time everything was over my brain was done. Done done done.

It's a little better today, but not well enough to write in detail about any of this yet.

Happy Monday!

The Only Time He's Still

For the record, we have plenty of pillowcases, but apparently we don't always use them.

Also, sleeping kids are still as cute as sleeping babies.

Imagine a Dragon

Sophie got to wear a full face of makeup tonight...

...so that she would be ready for opening night of her show!

She did a fantastic job in the leading role! She sounded beautiful and carried herself with poise. Her line deliveries were authentic and believable.

Her friend Gemma ditched the end of her dance class to come see Sophie, which made Sophie feel loved.

The director did Sophie's hair for the show. She wasn't playing Rapunzel, but she certainly looked like Rapunzel tonight.

And look who got here from college in time to see her show. Having Peter there made the night extra special.

We're going again tomorrow night to see her in her ensemble role.

Well done, Sophie!

Acts of Service

Sophie is playing the lead in her school musical (in two of the four shows, all the speaking roles are double cast) and they open tomorrow night. She wanted to review her lines this evening after rehearsal, but I was making dinner, Phoebe was doing homework, and Bryan was picking up Cooper from a track meet. Topher offered to read opposite her. She reported that he did "a really good job."

This picture makes my heart happy. Yes, it's so cool that she's got this role. And it's great that Topher can read well enough to do this. But the real joy comes from watching Topher serve his sister.

Welcome to Pennsylvania

My Aunt Carolyn came to visit last week and we had a wonderful whirlwind of adventures. The first day we chatted a lot and she rested after coming in on a red eye. Thanks go to Topher for picking up my phone and taking this picture.

The next day we toured the Martin Guitar factory. I took very few pictures, but here's a little proof we were there.

On Wednesday we trekked up to the Priesthood Restoration Site. It was soooooo cold and light snow fell a few times while we toured the homes of Joseph and Emma Smith and Emma's parents. Sophie reminded me that we had hand warmers in the car, so I ran to the parking lot and grabbed a handful as the tour took off without me. I caught up and quickly handed out our expired, but still functional, warmers. I was thankful that we had this small blanket in the van. We turned it into a hood for Topher.

One highlight was running into one of the sister missionaries that served in our ward last year. She was visiting her old mission with her parents. We had planned to be there an hour earlier, but were running late. If we'd come when we planned, we would have missed her. I think our tardiness was a tender mercy.

On Thursday we drove into Philadelphia and attended the Temple. Then we met up with Aunt Carolyn's friend and walked to eat at the Reading Terminal Market and then see several historical sites. We saw Benjamin Franklin's grave, the first Quaker church in the US, Christ Church (and George Washington's pew), and the Great Essentials (the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Articles of Confederation) in the West Wing of Independence Hall.

Bryan took on all of the dinner responsibilities and kept us well fed. It was great not having to worry about that.

The Most Important Sunday

Our Easter was full of music. I directed a special musical number from the Young Men and Young Women (Cooper, Phoebe, and Sophie all sang) and one from the Primary (Topher was in that). Then the kids and I all sang with the ward choir and the girls and I made up half of a women's musical number. For me, music is the best way to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We got home from our afternoon meeting and started dinner. Bryan was the Easter Bunny this year. He bought all the candy, stuffed the eggs, and hid them. I took pictures of the hunt.

We decided the pre-dinner candy fest would count as dessert. The highlight of the meal was the homemade whipped cream in the ambrosia, thanks to Bryan.

We've had a very busy few weeks and it was nice to have a calm Easter.

He Is Risen

On this Good Friday, as we look forward to Easter Sunday, I'm thankful for the healing power of the atonement, tender mercies, and answers to prayers.

Happy Easter.

What To Do Instead

Today was the second day of Spring Break. Phoebe took it upon herself to make this "Things to do instead of being on your phone" list:

And then she did one of them.

Tangled

Church prom was this weekend!

He went with the white shoes, in case you're curious.

The theme was Tangled. I think Phoebe's dress definitely had Rapunzel vibes.

She took advantage of the nearly two hour drive to get there and did her hair and makeup in the car.

Here's the whole group that Bryan drove down. They had a fun time!

I Know

Topher bore his testimony on Sunday. He wrote it out first so he would remember what he wanted to say. Then he walked up to the microphone BY HIMSELF. He was pretty nervous about that part, but he did well.

Here's what it says: I no the cheretch is true and that we can falo Jesus

Here's what it means: I know the church is true and that we can follow Jesus.
