Cooper has had his mouth washed out a few times lately, thanks to his penchant for eliciting a reaction by saying naughty and unkind words. They're fairly tame when compared to the vast lexicon of Words That Get You Sent to Timeout, but still not welcome at our house.
Wednesday night at dinner, Cooper decided to unleash some of these words. I sent him to sit on the stairs, the designated timeout spot in this house. After the appointed time had elapsed I called him back. Once he was in the room, the following exchange took place.
Me: Cooper, are you going to use appropriate or inappropriate words?
Cooper: (without pausing) Both, throughout my life. But today? No. Well...maybe by bedtime.
Not the answer I was expecting, but I do appreciate his honesty.
