When you have a little baby you ooh and aah over everything they do. They burp, you clap, they smear food all over their face and clothing, you laugh, they suck their thumb, you tell them how cute they are.
Fast forward two years.
Your three-year burps, you remind him to excuse himself. He smears food all over himself, you scold him for making a mess and try to clean him up. He sucks his thumb, you relentlessly get on his case to get his hand out of his mouth.
Poor Peter. He sees us delight over all the little things that Cooper does, so he tries to do them too. Cute on an almost one-year-old is not the same as cute on a three-year-old. We've been trying to explain to him that just because Cooper does something, that doesn't mean that he should do it too.
Huh, maybe this is why he has refused to use the bathroom lately. Does that mean that Peter won't potty-train until Cooper does? That would not be awesome...

I've thought about this before, too, especially when Joshua was learning to walk -- Joshua would toddle across the room, but not quite have the balance to make it, and fall into my arms. Then, immediately, Logan would copy him: stagger across the room and then plow into me, and I would yell at him (he's HEAVY!). What a double-standard. It's hard to deal with, and I don't know exactly what to do about it.
It has gotten better as Joshua's been leaving the baby-stage and Logan's gotten older, too. Joshua no longer does a lot of those baby things and Logan understands better about being a "big kid" (seeing his friends at church and preschool reinforce the idea).
And I TOTALLY thought the same thing about using the bathroom, but now (six months later) Logan has no problem with it. (Well, "no problem" meaning we are still working on sleeptimes and meaning he still has an occasional accident ... but he actually will get new pants and underwear on his own. Works for me.)
Cam thinks if the dog does something, then it is all right for her to do it to. I think they'll make any excuse they can to get away with things!
